Welcome
Mission Statement: To empower young people through performance arts, education and the creation of
outstanding theatrical and musical art.
Our youth theatre has been based on the following belief: Young people gain confidence and learn commitment, responsibility, commitment and teamwork skills that are critical to their success in school and in life.
Lake Superior Theatre Inc. was founded through the office of The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center in 1998 to produce an original play for the City of Marquette Sesquicentennial celebrations. Lake Superior Theatre has been a sustainable and viable organization for the past thirteen years in Marquette presenting and preserving our history through live theatrical presentations and events.
The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center Youth Theatre was founded through the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center in 2001 as a program of the city. Reatha Tweedie, former Director of Arts and Culture for The City of Marquette, worked with staff member and NMU intern Nikke Nason to develop and produce youth theatre in Marquette. This program blossomed for the past 10 years under the direction of Nikke Nason in her role as Arts Director for the City of Marquette. In the fall of 2011, after Nikke left her position with the City of Marquette to pursue her Masters Degree at NMU, Lake Superior Theatre took over the Youth Theatre…Lake Superior Youth Theatre.
Strategic planning sessions were held, an Advisory Board of Directors for the program was established and the first production under the new Lake Superior Theatre 501c 3 umbrella was Annie Jr. in the March of 2012.
